Jerzy Władysław Franciszek Maria Sołtan, coat-of-arms Sołtan (1913-200), Polish architect, sculptor and architectural theorist, collaborator of Le Corbusier. From 1931 to 1935, he attended the Warsaw University of Technology, from 1935 to 1936 he studied at the Cavalry Reserve Cadet School in Grudziądz, and served his apprenticeship with the 1st Cavalry Regiment of Józef Piłsudski in Warsaw. In 1938, he received the rank of second lieutenant. As commander of the communications platoon of the 3rd Cavalry Rifle Regiment, he took part in the fighting during the September Campaign. He was taken prisoner by the Germans, where he maintained correspondence with Le Corbusier, thanks to which, after his release, he moved to France and carried out projects with the architect. In 1954, he taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and was a co-founder of the Artistic and Research Establishments. In 1959 he taught at Harvard, in 1961 as a visiting professor, from 1965 as a full professor. He was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Architecture from 1967 to 1974 and Director of the Spatial Urban Design Programme in 1975. He retired in 1979. In 2001 he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Warsaw University of Technology.He is a Knight of the Order of Virtuti Militari. His works include the Warszawianka sports complex, the interiors of the Warszawa Śródmieście railway station, the Venice bar in Warsaw, and the Polish pavilion at the World Exhibition in Brussels (1958).
