Parish Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Wojsławice

Variants of the name:

Cerkiew Przeniesienia Relikwii św. Mikołaja w Wojsławicach

Parish Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Wojsławice - Roman Catholic parish church from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries in Wojsławice. Currently, the Orthodox Church of the Transmission of the Relics of St. Nicholas.

History
Originally the town of Vojslavice was part of the parish of Uhrynov. A pastoral post was recorded in Wojsławice in 1905, and in 1910 Wojsławice was mentioned as an expiatory post. In 1926 an independent parish was established.

The chapel was probably built at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, unfortunately no information on specific dates has been preserved. What is known is that it was completed in 1907 and consecrated the following year. In 1932, the church was extended with a porch, the interior painted and a bell tower built.

During the Second World War, in 1943, the church was abandoned by the pastor and parishioners and suffered significantly. Documents from 1948 describe it as completely burnt out. After the boundary correction in 1951, it was closed and for the next three years was used as a warehouse for the local kolkhoz. After its liquidation in 1980, the building remained abandoned and deteriorated. In 1990 it was taken over by the Orthodox Church and rebuilt.

Architecture
The church in Wojsławice is located in the centre of the village. It was originally a medium-sized, single-nave church with the chancel facing west. The façade was simple, with a slightly forward central part, preceded by a porch added in 1932. Originally, the whole church, except for the porch, was not plastered. Above the nave, a square turret was built with a bell tower. A three-bay bell tower stood next to the church.

After the church was taken over by the Orthodox Church, the building was rebuilt - the upper part of the façade was demolished to half its height, a new porch was built and a polygonal pseudo-dome was added to the roof.

Artistic issues
According to Kinga Blaschke, the church in Wojsławice shows similarities to the typical design created by Lviv architect Tadeusz Obmiński. It represents a much simplified version of the design of a temple intended for 200 people. Other realisations based on the same design are the parish churches in Banilovo, Bartatów, Bogdanovka, Delawa, Germakówka, Kolomyia-Mariivka, Piłatkowice, Rasztowce, Załawie and Žabie.
