A note announces the completion of work by John Henry Rosen on the paintings in the palace at Castel Gandolfo, created at the request of Pope Pius XI. The paintings depict two scenes, the 'Battle of Warsaw 1920' and the 'Defence of Częstochowa'. Restoration work at the Papal Palace in Castel Gandolfo is progressing rapidly. The decorative side of the Holy Father's personal suite, to which the private chapel adjoins, has now been addressed; the decoration of the chapel walls was entrusted personally by Pius XI to the Polish painter Jan Henryk Rozen, professor at the Lviv Polytechnic.

Pius XI himself worked out the theme, according to which a fresco would be placed on one side of the altar, depicting an episode from the defence of Częstochowa during the Swedish invasion with an image of the Virgin Mary, and on the other side the heroic death of Father Skorupka during the Bolshevik invasion. Mr J. H. Rozen had already prepared the frescoes in the studio granted to him in the Vatican, according to the sketches approved by Pius XI.
