A note announces the planned erection of a monument in Mohacz, Hungary, commemorating the Polish knights who fought in the Battle of Mohacz. The overall design and the sculpture of the eagle on the pedestal of the monument were made by Hungarian artists. The unveiling was scheduled for 29 August 1929. The monument still stands today in one of the city squares in Mohács. The information was published in the journal "Sztuki Piękne",1929, no. 7, p. 271 (public domain, reprinted after the Library of the University of Silesia, Katowice).

Budapest
Polish monument in Mohacz

In 1926, as the 400th anniversary of the Battle of Mohács, national commemorative ceremonies were held in Hungary. One of these commemorations was celebrated in Érd, a town near Budapest, where, on the initiative of Ferdinand Miklóssi, secretary of the Hungarian-Polish Association, with the participation of the Historical War Museum, a memorial plaque was erected in honour of the Polish army that took part in the Battle of Mohacz, which joined the Hungarian army here in Érd.

Mr Miklóssi also proposed back in 1927 that a monument be erected in Mohács in honour of the Polish heroes who had fallen there. This plan is now coming to fruition.

At a committee meeting attended by the former minister Pekar, Baron Nyáry, the president of the Hungarian-Polish Association, Colonel Hutiray, Miklóssi and others, he communicated to Nyáry that the monument would be made according to the drawing and idea of the artist Bodor and Dr Bevilaqua. The Polish eagle on top of the monument is the work of sculptor Szöda.

The mayor of the city of Mohacsa, Dr Margittay, who was present at the meeting, stated that the foundation for the monument would be made by the city at its own expense.

It was decided that the unveiling of the monument would take place on 29 August. Preparations for this ceremony are already underway, as it is hoped that many Poles will come there to deepen Polish-Hungarian friendship.
