Expansion of the Lviv Polytechnic.

In connection with the construction of the Central Industrial District in the region, of which Lviv will be a natural cultural centre in the future, construction of five buildings of the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of the Lviv Polytechnic began this year in the new city district on Stryiska Street. The construction of these five buildings in the new district of the city on Stryiska Street is a source of much hope not only for Lviv, but for the whole world of technical science and Polish industry. Within the walls of the new Faculty, in modernly furnished and equipped halls and laboratories, the technical youth will be educated as early as 1941 and will contribute in large numbers to the numerically inadequate engineering staff in industry, the army and communications.

The ceremonial signing of the foundation act, the consecration and laying of the foundation stone, the consecration of the walls of the first two buildings and the meeting of the Honorary and Executive Building Committee took place on 26 November with the participation of the Representative of the Protectors of the Building, Mr. President of the Republic of Poland and Mr. Marshall of Poland, as well as representatives of the Authorities, science, industry and society. The energetically conducted action of the Building Committee arouses the highest and warmest appreciation. Our editors provide our readers with photographs illustrating details of the construction of the oldest Technical University in Poland and one of the oldest in Europe, the Lviv Polytechnic, which in 1914 will celebrate the centenary of its glorious existence.
