Sculptures by Magdalena Abakanowicz in open space

Magdalena Abakanowicz is one of the most frequently shown and most highly regarded Polish artists in the world. Her works can be found in the United States, France, Japan and many other places. Her most important works exhibited in the open air undoubtedly include the famous Chicago "Agora", about which we write in a separate text. Many of her works are also exhibited in museums (for catalogues of her Polish works, including a sculpture by Magdalena Abakanowicz, see the texts dedicated to individual museums ). The artist, initially known for her monumental 'abacanas', over time increasingly placed her sculptures in public space. Her works of solitary figures, faceless crowds, organic and hybrid forms have found a permanent place in the landscape of many cities around the world. They are characterised by a unique ability to penetrate the boundaries between matter and emotion, individuality and collectivity, nature and civilisation. In the open spaces of America, Asia and Europe, Abakanowicz's works become not only an element of the landscape, but also a starting point for reflection on the human being, his or her condition, relationship with nature and others. They are places of intense presence - at once unsettling and contemplative, where form and emptiness, weight and porosity of material create disturbing narratives.
