Commemoration of Józef Piłsudski and the Alley of Remembrance in Zułów

Józef Piłsudski was born in the manor house next to the small Lithuanian village of Zułów in 1867. His family lived there until the manor burned down in 1875, when they moved to Vilnius. Today, there is a memorial stone there. Since 2010, an avenue of remembrance has also been created at the site. The first oak trees planted commemorated the victims of Katyn, Lech Kaczyński and the other victims of the presidential plane crash near Smolensk. Then the following were commemorated: Pope John Paul II, General Aleksander Krzyżanowski "Wilk" - commander of the Vilnius District of the Home Army, Professor Andrzej Stelmachowski, heroes of the 1920 war, the battle for Monte Cassino, defenders of Westerplatte, exiles to Siberia, and the 100th anniversary of Polish scouting.
