Project for a monument to Marshal Pilsudski in Lviv

The note mentions the gathering of a civic committee to design a statue of Marshal Piłsudski to be erected on the slope of the Citadel on the side of Pełczyńska Street. It is also mentioned that the statue would be the subject of a separate competition, but at present only competition entries have been reviewed (Source: Ilustrowany Kurier Codzienny, Krakow 1936, no. 98, p. 3, after: Małopolska Biblioteka Cyfrowa).

A modernised reading of the text.

Lviv Builds a Monument to the Marshal.

Lviv, April 5. (C). A meeting of the Civic Committee for the Construction of a Monument to Marshal Pilsudski was held in the Biesiadeckis Palace in Lviv, chaired by the Committee's chairman, the city's Deputy Mayor Dr. Ostrowski. The chairman of the artistic section, Professor Minkevich of the Polytechnic, reported on the work of the competition jury, which, as we reported, awarded seven works out of eighteen submitted. The design for the monument on the slope of the Citadel on the side of Pełczyńska Street, which received first prize, provides a beautiful urban solution for this part of the city by alluding to Mount Radecka. The design, which received second prize, gives a beautiful composition in the ensemble of spherical buildings in the area of the Governor's Bulwarks and Podwale. The Marshal's statue itself, however, will be the subject of a separate competition. The names will not be revealed until the preparation stage, which is currently underway, has been completed. Those present at the meeting were also acquainted with the results of the competition for a medal to commemorate Lviv's granting of honorary citizenship to Marshal Piłsudski. The chairman of the competition jury, Professor Harland, provided explanations. Three works were awarded. The first prize went to the Warsaw artist Mazurkiewiczowa.
