Bulgaria in homage to the Polish monarch.

From 3 to 5 August, great celebrations will be held in Varna, Sofia, in honour of the Polish king, Wladyslaw III Varnañczyk, who died there in battle with the Turks in 1444. A delegation of 2,000 people will arrive from Poland, led by the Minister of Education, W. Jędrzejewicz, and representatives of the Polish army. The Bulgarian government will be represented by the Minister of National Education, General Councillor. Also expected to arrive is a large delegation from Hungary.

In Varna, the Bulgarians have built a magnificent monument to King Wladyslaw Varnañczyk, which will be unveiled during the aforementioned celebrations. In addition to the Polish crown, Ladislaus Varna had a Hungarian crown and, as Polish king, was at the same time king of Hungary. The Polish monarch went to war against the Turks in order to defend Christianity against the invading Mohammedans. In this battle, however, he died heroically in the terrible Battle of Varna. He was avenged only by the Turkish conqueror Sobieski, who finally crushed the Mahometan power in Europe.

The celebrations in Varna will be followed in Burgas by the unveiling of a memorial plaque dedicated to Mickiewicz.
