Biography:

Wincenty Rawski (1810-1876), born in Chernokonce, architect and builder. He studied at the Imperial and Royal Polytechnic Institute in Vienna, after which he associated his professional activity with Lviv, where he realised numerous architectural projects.

He specialised in classicism and early historicism. Among other things, he designed the church in the Sacré-Cœur monastery complex, one of the first neo-Gothic buildings in Lviv. Together with Marceli Erazm Gryglaszewski, he ran a carpentry and construction office, which enabled him to both design and implement his own and others' architectural concepts.

He took part in the reconstruction of Lviv's City Hall (1849-1851), implementing a design by Johann Salzmann, and he also directed the reconstruction of the bell tower of Lviv's St. George's Cathedral, designed by Joseph Braunseis. His works also include:

  • the reconstruction of the Dzieduszycki Palace (1860-1869),
  • modernisation of the St. Vincent à Paulo Hospital (1870),
  • designs for gravestones in the Lychakiv Cemetery, created in collaboration with the sculptors Cyprian Godebski and Paul Eutele,
  • gazebo in the form of a Greek temple in the garden of the George Hotel,
  • numerous townhouses in Lviv.

In 1871-1873 he was a member of the Lviv city council.

From his marriage to Marcela née Zbrożek he had sons Wincenty and Kazimierz, who also became architects, and a daughter Maria, the wife of Wiktor Sadłowski, the mother of Władysław Sadłowski, later a well-known Lviv architect.

He died in 1876 and was buried in the family tomb in the Lychakiv Cemetery in Lviv.
