A modernised reading of the text.

Zdzięcielski parish church.

The parish church of Zdzięcielski, located in the town of the same name on the road from Slonim to Vilnius, was originally wooden, founded by Duke Konstantin Ostrogski, Voivode of Kyiv; there is no information as to the year it was built. The present church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, built in brick by Duke Kaźmierz Leon Sapieha, Grand Chancellor of Lithuania, in 1646, is in the form of an undercroft. M. Panny, in oblong form, is 50 long, 18 wide and 17 arches high. It is decorated at the front with two magnificent towers of three storeys, ending in a dome with a cross. Between these towers on the first storey rises a facade of oval shape, with a cross and clock. The ceiling and floor of ordinary brick. Above the entrance door is a choir with a 16-voice organ, white-painted and partly gilded. There are seven altars in all, three of them in the chancel and four in the nave of the church. The great altar has a ciborium made of wood, of lovely woodcarving work. In the same church, above the baptismal font, in the wall, opposite the pulpit, there is a tombstone of brass plate, and behind it, in a vessel, the hearts of the late Duke Mikolaj Faustin Radziwill and his son George, deceased: father in 1741, son in 17. Above this monument there is a portrait of Mikolaj, painted in oil, of oval form, set into the wall and well preserved. The treasury of this church is poor and was robbed in 1807. Of the silver vessels of a larger size, it has six large candlesticks from the former Derechin church, of beautiful workmanship, a monstrance with double rays, a pacifier with the wood of the Holy Cross, etc. In 1741, on June 4, there was a terrible fire in Zdzieniel, in which not only all the parson's buildings, the whole town, but also the church with altars, apparatuses, church equipment, archives, and even with the dead in the basement were completely burnt except for the walls themselves. After this terrible catastrophe, it was raised from the ruins in 1761, rebuilt and restored inside and out, by Mikolaj Faustin Radziwill, and his wife Barbara of Zawisza, who was a particular benefactor and protector of the church. In which year and by which bishop this new temple was consecrated, there is no mention; however, the anniversary of the consecration is celebrated on the first Sunday after the Assumption of N. Virgin Mary. The most numerous gatherings of people take place at Christmas and Easter. The people of the Zdniel parish in general are moral and pious; they speak simple Belarusian, and in three villages: Pogiraczi, Zasieci and Xorcevichi have been using the Lithuanian language since time immemorial.
