Information on the object:
Mallet is a small town located in the state of Parana in Brazil. At the end of the 19th century, the first emigrants from the Kingdom of Poland and Galicia settled here. By 1911, Mallet was already home to a Polish community numbering several thousand. It was with this community in mind that the Nicolaus Copernicus College was established, the first Polish secondary school in Brazil, which functioned until 1938.

Completed works:
During the summer holidays, a group of Polish volunteers - students from the Inowrocław Building Technical School - carried out inventory work on the cemeteries of Polish settlers in the village of Mallet in southern Brazil.

The aim of the task was to make an inventory of the sepulchral complex and other memorial objects in the cemeteries in Mallet and to create photographic documentation, a map with the location of the objects and their state of preservation. The database created will make it possible to designate objects for possible rescue work at a later date and to develop an action plan for the preservation of Polish heritage in the Rio Clare do Sul district. The work was supervised by Dr Anna Zaręba of Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń and Dr Karolina Bielenin-Lenczowska of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw. On-site activities were supported by the MAZURY Folklore Ensemble, operating at the Polish Folk House.

As part of the task, 163 objects - monuments, gravestones - were inventoried and all the documentation was transferred to the Polish Heritage Abroad database (baza.polonika.pl). Six volunteers took part in the project.
