Olesko Castle.

Of the conservation work currently underway in Poland, the restoration of Olesko Castle (Zlocow district) is among the most important. This castle was located within a belt of borderland fortresses. It was built in the 17th century by Jan Danilewicz. After the Turkish wars and the extinction of the Danilewicz family, the castle became the property of the Sobieski family, and was restored by order of Maria Kazimiera in 1685. John III was born in the Olesko castle in 1629. In the 18th century, the chateau belonged to Václav Rzewuski, who moved all the interior furnishings to Podhorzec, also at one time the property of the Sobieski family.

From the end of the 18th century until the middle of the 19th century, the castle was in complete disrepair and it was only at the end of the 19th century that the Galician National Sejm bought the castle and started to restore it. During the Great War, the castle was destroyed by Russian quarters. Five years ago, on the initiative of the Polish conservation authorities, conservation work was undertaken, and now the entire castle is being thoroughly restored: the walls are being plastered, the interiors cleaned, the ceilings and floors renewed, a new staircase built, etc. These works are being carried out with conservation funds. This work is being carried out using conservation, parliamentary and social funds.
