Year by year, one could say month by month, Lviv is losing its former appearance. The exorbitant price of land, high rents for flats and the speculative-building fever that this has caused are rapidly bringing about this transformation. The characteristic manor houses, hidden in the suburbs in the greenery of trees and bushes, and the modest one-storey tenement houses are giving way to rented colossuses, often built in the style of unsavory Viennese Art Nouveau, so out of keeping with the rest of the surroundings. One of the parts of Lviv that has longest retained its original semi-urban character was Zielona Street.

A few palaces and modest manor houses, which gave way to suburban cottages towards the turnpike, drowned here in the greenery of parks and gardens, indeed justifying the name of the street "Zielona". But the growing building movement did not leave this side out either; the gardens were increasingly replaced by grey walls of tenement houses. The electric tram line that ran through this street in 1901 accelerated its development even further. And now one of the last characteristic buildings in this part of the city is falling into ruin: the old palace, once the property of the Counts Zamoyski. This palace, built in an original, if somewhat pretentious style, was erected at the beginning of the 19th century, serving at first as a temporary, then as a permanent residence for its owners.

It also played a role in the years 1860-1863, as, situated in an unobtrusive and unobtrusive location for police authorities, it served as a safe meeting place for the organising committees of the national movement. In the course of time, this secluded magnate's residence was turned into a rental house, with individual lavatories being rented out. The beautiful round room on the first floor of the palace still resounded with the sound of eager dances during the games held there by various carnival committees. Finally, the palace and its surroundings were taken over by entrepreneurs who put an end to its existence.

A new street with a whole row of several-storey rental houses will be built on the site. Together with the palace, the beautiful park, made up of ancient trees, has also fallen victim to the construction frenzy. During the earthworks there, a veritable cemetery was discovered, with some 50 human skulls unearthed. Their origin is not yet known. It is possible that a cemetery belonging to St Ursula's Church, now turned into an Evangelical church, existed there, or that one of the many skirmishes that took place under the walls of Lviv took place here.
