Biography:

Jan Rubczak (1884-1942) Impressionist, was born in Stanislavov (now Ivano-Frankivsk). He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. Before the outbreak of World War I, he settled in Paris. From 1924 he lived in Kraków. He was executed by the Germans at the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. He was a very prolific artist, a representative of Post-Impressionism. He left behind prints and paintings, depicting Krakow, many French landscapes. As a student, he painted a copy of a well-known work by Artur Grottger on the facade of the building of the Polish Gymnastic Society "Sokol" in Stanislawow Battle .
