Excerpts from the Polonia chronicles in the magazine Wieści z Polski. This issue mentions the initiative to erect a monument to K. Pulaski in the United States, as well as the issue of a Polish language school in Chicago. In Brazil, on the other hand, new settlements are being established by Polish peasants. Also mentioned is the development of a Polish gymnasium in Charbin, China (Source: "Wieści z Polski", Warsaw 1930, R: 3, no. 5, pp. 148-150, after: Jagiellonian Digital Library).

New Polish settlements.

A group of emigrant Poles, consisting of 30 people, has left for Brazil. They are mostly peasant families who are going to Le Havre for the time being, and from there by ship to Brazil. These emigrants are to settle in the newly founded Polish colony "Aguia Bianca" - "White Eagle", which is located in the Brazilian state of Espirito Santo.

The newcomers will live in administrative barracks for the time being, while each family will be given 25 hectares of land to use. Of this land, only half a hectare is suitable for immediate cultivation, as the rest is virgin forest that must be cleared. The Polish Colonisation Society, which is sending these emigrants, disposes of an enormous area of land in Brazil, amounting to some 5,000,000 hectares.

On 26 April this year, a transport of Polish settlers left Warsaw on a special train for the Aguia Branca ("White Eagle") colony in Espirito Santo, Brazil. This transport left for Amsterdam, from where it will depart for Rio de Janeiro. This transport consists of approximately 70 people. The Colonisation Society is currently sending a total of more than 120 people to Brazil, but has split this transport into two parts. On 2 May, the second part of the current transport of emigrants, bound for the Aguia Branca ('White Eagle') colony in the state of Espirito Santo, Brazil, left Warsaw for Gdynia.

From Gdynia, the settlers will depart on the ship "Krakus", on the direct line between Gdynia and Rio de Janeiro, to Le Havre, and from there directly to Rio. In Rio, they will meet the second part of the transport, which left via Amsterdam on 26 April this year on the ship "Orania". Both transports will stand at the "White Eagle" colony at the end of May and immediately begin work on the plots. This transport had 55 people, together with the previous one - 121.

The next transport will also depart from Warsaw for this colony in the first days of June b. Project to build a Pulaski monument in the United States. MP J. C. Shafer of Wisconsin has submitted to the US Parliament a project for the construction of a monument to General Casimir Pulaski and his soldiers at a cost of $350,000. This project, designed by I. K. Verwinski of South Bend, was assigned to the library committee. MP James M. Mead of Buffalo, a member of the union's Pulaski committee, submitted a motion to parliament to award a medal to Verwinski for his outstanding service as chairman of the committee.

Polish language school in Chicago.

In Chicago, in the middle of January, Polish language classes began in a newly opened school for Polish children and young people. The management was taken over by students who had come from Poland and were studying at American universities. The school immediately achieved great success, which, it is to be expected, will continue to increase, and the school will become a real boon to the young generation here.

The managers have spared no time or effort to keep improving it. The aim of the school is to familiarise children with the correct mother tongue and Polish culture. In addition, by employing students as teachers, the school helps them materially, which enables them to complete their studies. The school curriculum includes: Polish language including reading, writing, correct pronunciation, grammar and style, literature, history, national dances and sports.
