In 1781, Kamieniec Podolski was visited by King Stanislaw August Poniatowski. On this occasion, a triumphal gate, also known as the 'Stanislaus Arch', was erected near the Cathedral of St Peter and St Paul. The structure, designed by Jan de Witte, was made in the Baroque style and referred to ancient triumphal arches. The structure was topped with a full-length statue of St John of Nepomuk. The front wall bears a Latin inscription commemorating the royal visit that took place on 11 November 1781.
