Excerpts from the chronicles of the Polish community in the magazine "Wieści z Polski". This issue mentions a school in Shanghai founded by the Union of Poles, where lectures in Polish language, history and geography, as well as religion are given (Source: "Wieści z Polski", Warsaw 1930, R: 3, no. 6, p. 188, after: Jagiellonian Digital Library).

Polish school in Shanghai.

The Union of Poles opened a Polish school in Shanghai with lectures in Polish language, Polish history and geography, and religion. The school enrolled 12 children aged between 6 and 15, but soon 15 more pupils were enrolled. Of these children, only 3-4 speak Polish, the rest speak English or Russian.

Schooling takes place 2-3 times a week, as the children attend English or Russian schools. The lack of textbooks is acutely felt. The school is run as a teacher by Mr Sz. Franczyk.
