A short history of Moniuszko and the question of ownership of the whole of Ubiel is also recalled. The text is accompanied by a photograph of the manor house (Source: "Ziemia. Manor house in Ubiel.

In the Minsk region, in the Ihumen district, lies the village of Ubiel, remembered as the birthplace of the creator of "Halka", "The Countess" and "The Haunted Manor". At one time, Ubiel belonged to the Śmiłowicze dominion and was in turn owned by the Sapiehs, Zawisza and Oginskis. At the end of the 18th century, the entire estate was purchased by Stanislaw Moniuszko, military judge of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.

After his death, Ubiel fell to one of his sons, Czeslaw, who married Elżbieta Mądzarska. From these parents he was born in Ubiel on d. 5 May 1819. Stanislaw Moniuszko. The house in which he was born still exists today in good condition, as shown in the attached photograph. After the Moniuszko family, Ubiel became the property of the Dzikowskis and finally, by way of a bequest, it passed to the Oziemblowskis, in whose hands it has remained until now.
