Biography:

Jan Szczepkowski was born on 8 March 1878 in Stanislawow, was a sculptor and painter, and also served as director of the Municipal School of Decorative Arts and Painting in Warsaw. He studied at the ornamental sculpture department of the Wood Industry School in Zakopane, and later studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. He made many portrait sculptures of, among others, Edward Leszczyński and Rudolf Starzewski. He also designed the brass main altar for the parish church of St. Szymon and St. Jude Thaddeus in Białka Tatrzańska and the façade of the Sejm building in Warsaw.
