The note reports on the restoration of the Church of St Teresa in Vilnius, begun in 1929. During the work, paintings from the 18th century depicting the life of St Teresa were discovered under a layer of plaster. Their conservation was entrusted to Marian Słonecki. A modernised reading of the text

A year ago work began on the restoration of St Theresa's, or Ostrobramski, church. The result is excellent. It turned out that the interior of the church was covered with many layers of plaster - as many as 13 in some places! Beneath them, magnificent frescoes were discovered, reaching from the floor to the ceiling. They depict scenes from the life of St Teresa and date from the 18th century.

The colours have been perfectly preserved, and the dominant tone is apricot - the colour of the Carmelite habit. The frescoes are exquisite; the figures alone number more than 150, and the restoration is being carried out by Mr M. Słonecki. The interior of the church will be restored to its former form - with a warm golden-purple tone, in which the frescoes, decorative motifs and paintings will be harmoniously combined. In terms of wall painting, it will be unique among the churches of our part of the country and one of the most splendid monuments in Poland.
