Unusual celebrations in Český Těšín

and Congress of Polish Youth in Czechoslovakia - 50 years of Macierzy Szkolna - 25th anniversary of the Park A. Sikora - Unveiling of the Adam Sikora Memorial.

On Sunday, 7 bm, we experienced moments of great joy and solemnity in our social life. Already from the very morning there was an extraordinary movement in Český Těšín. Countless young people and visitors came from all over the country. For the commemoration of important events was celebrated by the whole Polish society in Silesia, viz: The First Rally of Polish Youth in Czechoslovakia, the 50th anniversary of the existence of the School Matters, and the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Adam Sikora Park, combined with the unveiling of the monument to the park's founder, which the School Matters had erected as a token of gratitude, in order to honour his memory in this way and to show the love and gratitude of society with the aim of encouraging future generations to follow in the footsteps of this worthy citizen.

On Sunday morning, the First Rally of Polish Youth in Czechoslovakia took place. After the services, an impressive procession with an orchestra formed on the market square and marched through the streets of the city to Park A. Sikora Park. At the head of the procession rode a horse-drawn band, representatives of organisations, the Scouts, the Catholic and Evangelical Youth Union, girls in Silesian costumes, the Union of Academic Youth "Jedność", the Union of Polish Choirs, the Sokol, the Firemen, etc.

The rally was opened by the chairman of the Committee, Rev. J. Berger, who in his keynote speech raised the importance and significance of the rally and welcomed the distinguished guests, above all Mr Consul N. Alexander Klotz, the vice-consuls, MPs, the president of Matice Szkolna, a representative of the Slovak youth, etc. After the singing of the song "We are the future of the nation" by the young people, Mr Gustaw Taraba delivered a paper on the topic: "Ideology of the Polish Youth" and Mr Fr. Bajorek on the topic: "Goals and tasks of the Polish Youth".

The day of the Convention was a landmark day. It was the first time that Polish young people from Jablunkov to Bogumin had come together, over and above all party, religious and state differences, in the name of the one cause that unites us. They came together to prove to everyone that they are one, that there is only one way for them to deal with the fundamental issue. The importance and significance of this day will only be properly assessed in the future. In any case, it goes far beyond the youth and is inextricably linked to the development of the history of our people.

After all, young people are supposed to replace their fathers one day and all the work falls on them. And depending on what assumptions they already set for themselves, how they shape their views - this is the direction their actions will take. Realising that now is still the time to be able to prepare herself properly, she will, as Mr Taraba said, revise her way of thinking. He will reflect on the defects of our social organism and how to cure them, he will think about what to hold on to, what is healthy and worthy of expansion and what should be abandoned. In this respect, the Rally has established essential guidelines. For all of us, there is one essential goal - the cause and well-being of the entire Polish people in Silesia - as Mr Bajorek said.

To this main objective all others are subordinated. Unity of purpose must correspond to unity of aspiration and organisation. Therefore, let us reject party scrambles that break up national unity, let us not divide ourselves into two separate camps for religious reasons, let us abandon social differences. Let us not search for what divides us, but let us build on what unites us. Let this spirit of unity of the First Youth Rally prevail over all and in all our organisations. In the afternoon, at 2 o'clock, the second celebration begins: the jubilee of Matice Szkolna and the unveiling of the Adam Sikora monument.

A huge procession is formed along the Olza River, with about six thousand participants with two orchestras, which proceeds through the streets of the town to A. Sikora's Park. Sikora Park. At the head rode a ferocious horse band, followed by uniformed and non-uniformed organisations. The whole parade made an extremely impressive impression. After the parade, the whole procession stopped at the park pitch. The guard of honour in front of the monument is made up of Scouts, Firemen, Falcons and Strongmen. Alongside a thousand singers is the Union of Polish Choirs, which pays tribute to park creator Adam Sikora with a song.

The president of the Polish Educational Society, headmaster Piotr Feliks, spoke in glowing terms about the founding and development of the Polish Educational Society, which is now celebrating half a century of its existence, and which has become the pride and joy of the whole of Polish society in Silesia through its great and unstinting work in the cultural and educational fields. The President then went on to outline the beautiful personality traits of Adam Sikora, who had accomplished an epoch-making feat by purchasing the plot of land on which the park named after him had been built 25 years ago, for which the grateful Polish Educational Society had erected a monument as an eternal reminder.

After the unveiling of the monument, built from granite and bearing a bronze bust of Adam Sikora, the president of the Park Society, mayor Jerzy Teper, spoke, thanking the Motherland for honouring the founder of the park in such a dignified manner and promising that the Adam Sikora Park Society would take the greatest care of the monument. This was followed by Macierzy Szkolna's National Festival in the park, which was attended by more than 12,000 participants.

In the evening, the scouts and girl scouts held a bonfire on the park field, which was one of the most beautiful we have ever had here, and which was attended by several thousand spectators. Our brave scouts had already arrived in Cz. Cieszyn on Friday from all the teams, where they pitched their tents in the Park of A. Sikora Park, where they pitched their tents.

The whole camp looked extremely well. On this occasion the Girl Scouts put on a very nice exhibition, which everyone enjoyed. We had a good and uplifting experience on that memorable day.
