The castle in Latyczów was built in the 16th century on the initiative of Jan Potocki, starosta of Kamieniec. The construction was partly financed by the Sejm, which compensated Potocki for the costs incurred.

The castle was surrounded by moats, earth ramparts and a double palisade. A bridge and a gate made of oak logs led to the interior, at which there was a cordegarden. Within the grounds there were wooden outbuildings, brick court rooms and a nobleman's tower.

Later, a Dominican monastery and church were built nearby, using parts of the former castle wall with loopholes.
