Description of memorabilia of King John III Sobieski

The text mentions memorabilia of King John III Sobieski, including a painting depicting John III as the victor at Vienna, created by the royal painter, George Eleuter. In addition to this and other paintings in the collection of the Munich museum, as the author of the text notes, two ornamental pistols can be seen, which were said to have belonged to King John III Sobieski. A modernised reading of the text.

SOME MEMENTOES OF JAN III IN BAVARIA

During the Vienna Expedition, the Elector of Bavaria Maximilian Emanuel accompanied the Polish king, and after the victory he asked the royal commander for the hand of his daughter, Princess Theresa Kunegunda, whom he married on 15 April 1691.
Some mementoes of Sobieski's times have thus been preserved in Bavaria, and the name of this king is still mentioned with reverence.
The magnificent new edifice, known as the Maximilianeum, is to depict major historical events, including the liberation of Vienna. In this painting, Maximilian Emanuel will be placed alongside John III and Prince James at Vienna. This painting, of colossal size, is to be executed al fresco on the outer wall of the building by Professor Dietz, court painter to the Duke of Constance and a well-known battle artist. The carton of the painting is already finished.
As for more recent memorabilia, Schleißheim Castle near Munich contains various paintings of battles against the Turks. Particularly noteworthy are eight medium-sized paintings depicting Sobieski's battles at Vienna, Parkanami, Chocim and others, painted by the contemporary artist Pierre de Marlin and accurately depicting the town from a strategic point of view. Another oil painting of medium size depicts John III as the victor at Vienna, in idealised Roman costume on horseback, with his glory hovering above him, with the king's shield of arms. It was executed by Jerzy Elcuter, royal painter; it was engraved in Warsaw by Karol de la Haye.
In the cloister of the royal castle in Munich is a depiction of the family of King John III, completely the same, only slightly smaller, as in the painting in the collection of Mr Marshal Sarnecki in Warsaw, which was painted by Henryk Gascar in Rome in 1601 and engraved by Benedict Faviat there in 1693. This painting was also reproduced in a woodcut in Tygodnik Ilustrowany No. 148; the Munich painting seems to be a duplicate. In the new museum of ancient memorabilia there is a beautiful miniature on parchment of John III, by an unknown artist.
In the same collection I also saw two ornamental pistols, here reproduced in faithful exaggeration, each 23 inches long, made of smelted iron and framed in ivory, which were the property of King John III. On the handle is carved the figure of the king, and on the gold ring are engraved the following inscriptions, on one: "Efigies Sobiescii regis Polonorum", on the other: "Arma quae obtulit sorenissimo electorii Bavariae Maximiliano III 1773, dominus comes Ignatius Potocki, Capitaneus Canioviensis". The barrel, in turn, bears the name of the canner: Lottlroux a Maastricht.
