Architecture of Ludwik Baldwin-Ramult outside Poland

Ludwik Baldwin-Ramułt (1857-1929) was a Polish architect and lieutenant of the Polish Army , connected with Lviv. Born in Tarnów, he was educated at the Military Academy and later also at the polytechnic in the Galician capital, where he graduated with honours .

Baldwin-Ramułt then became an assistant professor at the School of Engineering , located in the same city. At the end of the nineteenth century, he obtained a concession that allowed him to carry out construction work, and he subsequently headed an architectural office that he ran with Julian Cybulski.

When the First World War broke out, the architect was in Graz, where he was active in the Committee for the Care of Refugees from Galicia. He also took part in the defence of Lviv . For his services, he was honoured with the Cross of the Defence of Lviv with Sword , as well as the Badge of Honour "Orlęta " .

Baldwin-Ramułt created the design for Lviv's rotunda , which originally housed the Panorama of Racławice - only later was the painting transferred to Wrocław. The building itself was a hexagonal structure, while its façade was devoid of windows . It is still located in Stryysky Park and houses a gymnasium.

The architect also supervised the construction of the Potocki Palace , which was based on a design by Louis Alphonse Rene Dovernut . Together with Julian Cybulski, he rebuilt the whole building in the Neo-Renaissance style , with Neo-Baroque details .

Baldwin-Ramult's oeuvre also includes designs for Art Nouveau townhouses at 124-132 Ivan Franko Street and a villa in the French Neo-Renaissance style for the writer J. K. Zieliński . He also spearheaded the realisation of the project for the main post office , located on Slowackiego Street.
