Monument to Marshal Pilsudski in Ternopil

The short text mentions the Piłsudski monument unveiled on 11 November 1935. The press release states that it was the first such Piłsudski monument in Poland at the time. The initiator of the monument was W. Żyborski. The further part of the note describes the appearance of the monument (Source: "Wschód", Lviv 1936, no. 6, p. 8, after: Jagiellonian Digital Library).

A modernised reading of the text

This monument was unveiled on 11 November 1935 by Governor Mr Dziewanowski Gintowt. In general, this monument was the first large-scale monument to Marshal Piłsudski in Poland. The initiator of the monument's construction was the then Head of the Socio-Political Department of the Provincial Office in Tar nopol, Mr Wacław Żyborski, today Head of the Security Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

This huge monument, more than 10 metres high, has Marshal Piłsudski on horseback in the foreground, with great allegorical figures on its sides: a Legionary and a Soldier of 1920. The figures, made of bronze, make an excellent artistic composition. The base of the monument bears the inscription: To the Chief of the Nation - Podolia Land. The sculptures were made by the sculptor Głowiński, and the border of the monument was made by Wawrzyniec Dajczak.
