A short note mentions Tadeusz Kościuszko's active interest in lathing and woodcarving, as well as the question of painting, which he also took up while staying in America. Paintings of Tadeusz Kościuszko.

It is known that Kościuszko, in his moments of leisure, liked to occupy himself with turning and woodcarving. His products of this kind can be found both in private and public collections, for example in the Częstochowa treasury, and we have already reproduced some of them in the "Tygodnik Illustrowany".

Kastawiecki, in his "Słownik malarzów polskich" [Dictionary of Polish Painters], also mentions that Kościuszko placed a small mosaic of his own design on a snuff-box he had made and given to General Lipski.
- Less well known is the detail that the General also amused himself with painting, depicting landscapes and architectural views in watercolours. Two of these, now the property of Mrs Maria Rusiecka of Trojanka, are given here in faithful reproduction.

While in America, Kościuszko also took pictures of people known to him. Among other things, he made a bust of Jefferson, President of the United States, with the caption:

"Thomas Jefferson, a philosopher, a patriot and a friend. Dessiné par son ami Thaddée Kościuszko et gravé par M. Sokolnieki."
